Curriculum vitae

Summary:

Prof. Erika Jensen-Jarolim is head of the IPP - Dept. of Pathophysiology of the Medical University Vienna. She holds an MD and is specialized in pathophysiology and immunology. In spite of her operative and political duties within the university, she is leading a research team and thus is also actively involved in teaching and directing of scientific projects. Her research is dedicated to the evaluation of pathophysiological mechanisms and the development of vaccines against allergies and tumors, especially using the so-called mimotope technology. In 2006 she defined the novel research direction AllergoOncology which focuses on the role of IgE in tumor defence. Erika Jensen-Jarolim is member in numerous scientific societies, recipient of multiple scientific and society awards, and reviewer of a great number of international journals and funds. Based on her active interest in comparative oncology she since 2008 is councilor of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna.

Detailled cv:

Erika Jensen-Jarolim was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1960 and graduated to Doctor of Medicine at the University of Vienna in 1985. In the same year she got affiliated to the Dept. of General and Experimental Pathology at the University of Vienna, where she started research work in the field of allergy in the group of Prof. Dr. Dietrich Kraft.

In 1988 she joined the group of Prof. Dr. Lars K. Poulsen to analyse the mechanisms of allergen immunotherapy in the Dept. of Allergology at Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Between 1989 and 1991 she joined the research team of Prof. Dr. Beda M. Stadler at the Institute of Immunology, University of Berne, Switzerland where during two years her research interest was dedicated to the role of anti-IgE autoantibodies in allergy.

After a baby break, Erika Jensen-Jarolim returned to the Department of Pathophysiology in Vienna (earlier General and Experimental Pathology) in 1995 and started up teaching activities in Pathophysiology. Her major research interest from this time on was on mechanisms of type I. allergy, especially food allergy, and the elucidation of allergen B-cell epitopes.

In 1998 Erika Jensen-Jarolim was nominated Assistant Professor followed by her habilitation in 1999. In the same year she became Associate Professor of the Medical Faculty, University of Vienna, and founded the working group for AllergoOncology. She is a dedicated "Mentor of young Scientists" at the Medical University of Vienna.

In 2000 she completed the subjects Immunology and Pathophysiology after trainings at the University Clinic of Dermatology (Prof. Dr. Hubert Pehamberger) and in Oncology (Prof. Dr. Christoph C. Zielinski).
